One of the Best Burgers You'll Ever Eat

Upon going to college, I started a tradition with my dad: whenever he would come to pick me up or take me back to school, we would try a new restaurant in the San Diego area. Unfortunately (and fortunately), I have a car down at school this year, so we don't get to explore the restaurant world as much.

But, this time, I went home and was able to try a restaurant suggested by my wonderful roommate!

Umami Burger - there's a few locations in the Los Angeles area, just close enough for us to try!

This time, my sister was lucky enough to join us!

We tried the pickles and pickled peppers with some kim chi.

Here is my sister's Green Bird Burger: turkey, avocado, green cheese, butter lettuce, sprouts, and a green goddess dressing!

Burgers with avocado are one of the best combinations out there.

My dad's Hatch Burger: four types of green chilies and cheese!

Loved the ooey- gooey cheese with the soft, roasted green chilies that melt in your mouth.

They even imprinted a 'U' on their buns! These burgers were so pretty I didn't even want to touch them 'cause I'd ruin it...

...but of course we had to dig in..

to these onion rings with the sweet and savory Umami Ketchup.

and the miso chili fries!

I really like the chili fries from Tommy's, but these were pretty darn good as well. The miso green chilies added a nice spice.

Last but not least, my Umami Burger: shitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted tomato, a parmesan crisp, and their umami ketchup

I'm a lover of all mushrooms, so I just had to try this burger. The sweet caramelized onions with the mushrooms.... to die for! They were prepared just right.

I liked the fact that these burgers were tender and juicy, not tough or overdone one bit! They chose the right breads to go with them too because they weren't thick and dry, which would take away from the taste of the rest of the ingredients.

Needless to say, I would definitely go back again. There are still so many different burgers to try!
