A couple of summers ago, I pulled out my mom's ice cream maker, super excited to make ice cream since I had never done that before. Unfortunately, the machine was missing a few pieces, so we had to do what we could with the parts we had. Sad to say, it did not turn out as expected. I also tried the ice cream in a bag method... but that didn't really work out either. A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon a banana ice cream recipe with no ice cream machine needed! Hallelujah!
Recipe (adapted from Pennies on a Platter):
3 Bananas (frozen)
1 Tbsp Milk (and more as needed)
1/2 tsp Vanilla
2 tsp Cocoa (explanation below)
We first cut the bananas into about 1 inch pieces and placed them into a tupperware for freezing.
The next part is easy! After adding the bananas, pulse, pulse, and pulse some more!
After a little while, it'll turn into a half mush, half creamy paste of bananas.
Then next comes the milk and the vanilla... and more pulsing!
We added more milk in addition to the 1 Tbsp to help the processing so it would be creamier.
And in the end, you get this nice, creamy banana mixture! Now you can go bananas for your sweet treat! Literally!
So the dealio with the cocoa powder. I thought in order to create another "flavor" of ice cream, I could add cocoa powder, but it didn't really turn out as planned. The banana flavor is just too powerful.. Well it was worth a try!
